Bologna construction
Bologna construction is one variation of Blake construction. The rear part of the upper is lasted in the usual manner using an insole, while the forefoot is constructed without an insole. The lining is sewn to the edge of the upper to form a tube, leaving only the toe area open; a toe stiffener is inserted, that section alone is lasted, and the outsole is then stitched on. Because the forefoot forms a tube, it wraps comfortably around the foot. In addition, the absence of an insole provides excellent flexibility and makes the shoes easy to wear. The method is called Bologna construction because it originated in Bologna, Italy.
